Day 202
Day 202 finds us in New Orleans, LA and up to 6,429.5 miles!
Left Beaumont, TX for Baton Rouge, LA April 22nd and arrived just in time for the big storm! Pitched media and am happy to say we got an article in The Advocate - People's Section which will run May 4th but no luck with TV due to storm & other local events taking media. Met with radio station contact and she is trying to get my new Radio PSA onto 6 Baton Rouge stations!
Headed on into New Orleans, LA arriving at the KOA Campground which is very nice - right near the Mississippi River. They welcomed us & we felt right at home. Friends from California were in town for Jazz Fest so we went Friday & went on an airboat swamp tour too! I wore my "fish shorts" so jokes were made about me being "alligator bait"! Ha! Weather has been great so far and my friends have now left. Pitched the New Orleans media and am now waiting to see if we will reach those here suffering with PKD? Cross your fingers!
Spent countless hours doing "trip route planning" - charting mileage & trying to reserve RV parks in advance, etc. All that done for Florida - now I can finally rest. But, not until I fix the handle on my tailgate that snapped - making it so I can't open it! I am not only driver, navigator, dog walker, etc. - I am Miss Fix It too! Ha!
Mentioned before Max was not well & I am happy to say that thanks to a wonderfully kind lady named Jennifer, whom helped pay for Max's tests, we got him to the Vet. I was shocked when the x-rays came back showing that Max had "buckshot" throughout his entire torso! They looked at me like "I did it" until I explained I was Max's 3rd owner & he had been abused before I got him! I never dreamed that Max was walking around filled with buckshot & he endures it like a real warrior! Vet said that the led in his body might explain sudden pain he has, occasionally? Other than that bad news Max is "holding his own" and only has a bit of arthritis in his hips & back from his age & needs his teeth cleaned. There was mention in the report that Max could be at "early stages of renal disease" but Vet assured me he is no immediate danger at this time. Funny, now Max and I will both have to watch out kidney function? Wonder if he got PKD from me? Ha! He is like my child but don't think so...
Well, right now we are just catching up on paperwork and working the New Orleans media so more to come...
Until next time remember to get out & get those pledges to make each mile we drive bring us closer to the cure! Hope all of you are OK and know Max & I are thinking of you... For our future destinations go to my new web site at {www.pkdawareness.com}. Maybe we will pass by you soon?
